Each year, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston awards a $1600 scholarship to a promising vocal student attending a college or university in the Houston area, or to a student from the Houston area attending a college or university elsewhere. High school seniors entering college in the fall are also eligible. This scholarship money is provided to the Society through a grant from the Lillian Kaiser Lewis Foundation. When financially able, the Society may award an additional scholarship of lesser value to a second, strongly qualified candidate. A technical internship of $1600 is offered to students of the theater, giving them experience in the workings and production of a show.
The Society hopes that you will take the time to look through the materials
provided, and to apply or encourage qualified students to apply by the
deadline of Wednesday, March 12, 2008. Funding is for
the 2008-09 academic year, and monies will be paid directly to the university,
half for the Fall term, and half for the Spring term. All applicants
must submit the application form supplied below, as well as all
other required materials. The recipient(s) will be notified at the end
of April 2008. All applicants will receive written notice of the results.
